However enthusiasm for the app has not been all-encompassing. Some iPhone 4S users with heavy accents have complained that Siri is finding it difficult to understand what they are saying.

Siri is meant to understand English (US, UK and Australia), French and German. Yet those with accents are reporting they are finding it difficult to make themselves heard. Native Spanish speakers speaking in English, for example, as well as Scots speakers in the UK say Siri cannot understand their voices. Strong accents and dialects are also proving to be a problem for Siri, distinctive regional accents like Boston in the US. While the mix-ups can have amusing results, for example one Scot who asked Siri “Can you dance with me” only to get the interpretation through the app of “Can you Dutch women”, it has proved to be frustrating to those who are unable to fully use their new device.

Tests that tech blogs and journalists have conducted on the app have suggested that the further an accent gets from its neutral, like RP or received pronunciation in the UK, the more confused Siri becomes.

On the Apple website, an FAQ associated with Siri says the app works better the more you use it. Much like voice recognition software like Dragon, frequent use means the app is able to understand your accent better, gradually recognising the nuances and dialects in each language. Apple also says that as more people use Siri, it will become better at picking up accents.

The Siri app is still in Beta, a note which is made clear on the Apple website, suggesting that although it marks a dramatic step forward in terms of voice recognition software, there are still elements to be developed and possibly bugs to be ironed out. iTunes and iOS5 regularly roll out updates to fix or tweak software elements that users might have picked up on, or simply do not work as well in practice as they did in software tests and on the drawing board.

In 2012, the languages Siri can understand will increase to include Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Italian and also Spanish. iPhone 4S users with thick regional accents will be hoping that the developments mean they will be able to be understood by their app, that is proving to be such a popular feature on the Apple device. I’ve had my BlackBerry Torch for a total of 9 days and the OtterBox Commuter case for a week (7 days exactly), and I’ve dropped my phone exactly three times since I’ve had the case, and each time the front plate fell off, not doing much to protect the phone. Now today, the third time I’ve dropped my phone, the thinnest, flimsiest piece of plastic I’ve ever seen that holds the front plate onto the phone just broke off. The front part of the case no longer even stays on my phone, and is virtually unusable.

I really liked the case at first; at least everything but the front plate. Not only did it fail epically at protecting the phone, but it was slightly annoying, because after two days of using my phone and becoming comfortable and familiar with it, the case blocked the buttons on the front just enough to make me have to relearn how to hit them with ease. I’m not saying I expect any case to fit my phone perfectly without affecting the way I use it, but it just adds to my frustration with this case. The bottom part is pretty okay; it seems to protect the phone pretty well, and I could access all of my buttons and jacks with ease (including the lock button, which other users have had issues with)and I’m considering just using it without the front-plate, but if all possible, I want my money back, because I think it’s *UTTERLY RIDICULOUS* that a case that’s supposedly made to protect a phone breaks after the slightest drops.

This product is very much what you would expect. It allows you to charge or sync your phone. I bought one for my office and one for my night stand. It’s feels heavy and solid in your hand. It does exactly what it’s supposed to: charge and sync your device.

My only complaint, as has been my complaint with all blackberry charging pods, is that they are overpriced. For the amount of components in it: molded plastic, usb extension cable, LED… It should be a lot cheaper. Unfortunately there aren’t really any 3rd party options so I just waited out and watched every day till I found the cheapest ones with free shipping.

I definately like the viewing angle and it since I use it as an alarm clock, I’m much less likely to knock it off the nightstand when I click snooze if it’s in the pod.

It’s a good product, I just think it could be a little bit cheaper. Maybe in time they will come down in price.
